Outboard Engine Specialist Tohatsu Marine Officially Endorses STA-BIL

The UK branch of marine outboard engine distributors Tohatsu has announced that it officially endorses STA-BIL Marine as its product of choice in the effort to combat the effects of E10 fuel.

Tohatsu has over 250 dealers across the UK and Ireland, and has recommended that STA-BIL is used to protect the company's engines from the effects of ethanol.

E10 petrol became the new government standard from September 1st 2021. E10 is a biofuel that is made up of 90% regular unleaded petrol and 10% ethanol.

This change is part of the UK government’s climate change targets, and they predict that the new greener fuel will reduce CO2 emissions by 750,000 tonnes per year.

Unfortunately, this increased amount of ethanol poses more risk to boats and especially older boats. Boat owners are being advised to check their vessel’s manual or ask the manufacturer or dealer before filling up with E10.

With ethanol absorbing water from the atmosphere, this can create condensation in fuel tanks. It can also cause corrosion in brass, copper, lead, tin and zinc components. As petrol deteriorates over time, the risk of damage to the vessel increases the longer the fuel is left unused in the tank.

Filling up with a fuel additive, such as STA-BIL 360 Marine, ensures that E10 fuel cannot deteriorate. It in fact keeps fuel fresh for up to 12 months and protects the entire fuel system against damaging rust and corrosion caused by moisture and ethanol fuels.

STA-BIL 360 Marine provides a protective coating on all the metal parts of the entire fuel system and combustion chamber, even when the engine is not running. It also prevents harmful gum, varnish, and build-up throughout the combustion chamber and injectors.

Tohatsu Corporation was founded in 1922 in Japan and is a global leader in the production of outboard engines.
